A hacker who stole intimate images and videos from young women and created a fake Qantas Wi-Fi network to take more private data has been jailed.
Michael Clapsis, a 44-year-old IT consultant, held his head in his hands on Friday as a prosecutor read out emotional impact statements from the people he violated.

The father, from the Perth suburb of Palmyra, hacked seven women’s email accounts, and stole hundreds of pictures and videos from 17 more.
The court was told Clapsis had worked with four of his victims, and the majority of the material taken was intimate and sexual in nature.
Clapsis also targeted travellers by mimicking Qantas’ free Wi-Fi connection.
Five unsuspecting passengers thought they were logging into the airline’s network but were diverted to his page instead, allowing him to steal their data.

After police came knocking, Clapsis unsuccessfully tried to remotely wipe his iPhone and delete more than 1700 images and videos.
He also secretly hacked his boss’ computer to listen in on a confidential video call with the AFP.
His defence lawyer told the court Clapsis was motivated by voyeurism and has led a double life.
“It’s a very difficult time for him and his family but he’s feeling genuinely remorseful and regretful for the harm that he did to others,” Anthony Eyers said.
On Friday, Clapsis was jailed for more than seven years.
He will be eligible for parole in 2030.
