An early Izzy Dalton goal has seen Perth Glory move into the top six with a 1-0 win over Newcastle at the Sam Kerr Football Centre.
Dalton scored the decisive goal of the match inside just eight minutes, with a giveaway from Newcastle’s Kiwi keeper Anna Leat letting the Glory in.
Susan Phonsongkham found Sarah O’Donoghue who in turn put the ball on a plate for Dalton who tucked the ball past a backpedalling Leat.
O’Donoghue was regularly threatening for the home side, once putting an effort straight into the arms of Leat after breaking through the Jets’ defence, and also managing to push a Phonsongkham squared ball wide when she looked a certainty to score.
Newcastle had plenty of chances to drag a goal back, with Sophie Hoban, Josie Allan and Hayley Johnston all making Perth custodian Teresa Morrissey work either side of half time.
However the Jets just couldn’t quite find the cutting edge required to equalise.
As a result Newcastle sit eighth after eight matches, although Adelaide and Sydney can both jump the Jets with wins tomorrow.
Perth have leapt into the top six after the victory and will be looking to consolidate on this form when they host cellar dwellers Western Sydney Wanderers next Friday night.
Meanwhile Newcastle will welcome the third placed Central Coast Mariners next Saturday in the F3 Derby.
