The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to initiate legal proceedings against Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani for violating his contract for the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL 11), after the player opted to join an Indian Premier League (IPL) side instead.
Blessing Muzarabani, who has featured in 89 T20Is for Zimbabwe, was signed by Islamabad United for Rs11 million as a replacement for West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph ahead of the upcoming PSL season, which is scheduled to run from 26 March to 3 May.
However, the 29-year-old later withdrew from his PSL commitment to link up with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL. He was brought in as a replacement after Bangladesh left-armer Mustafizur Rahman was released by the franchise, reportedly following directives from the BCCI earlier this year.
The PCB’s decision to pursue legal action reflects growing tension caused by overlapping calendars, with the PSL and IPL running at the same time for the second straight year.
It also follows a similar episode last season, when South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch pulled out after being drafted by Peshawar Zalmi and later joined Mumbai Indians as an injury replacement. Bosch’s exit resulted in a one-season ban from the PSL.
Blessing Muzarabani’s switch comes at a time when his stock has risen after a strong T20 World Cup campaign. He played a key role as Zimbabwe topped their group and reached the Super Eight, finishing with 13 wickets in six matches.
His tournament included a notable four-wicket spell in Zimbabwe’s emphatic win over Australia in the group stage.
