The Patriots appear to be adding to the team’s wide receiver depth chart, hoping to hand another weapon to quarterback Drake Maye.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Patriots are signing wide receiver Romeo Doubs to a four-year contract. And per ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Jeremy Fowler, the deal is worth “up to $80 million.”
Doubs, 25, has played the entirely of his NFL career to this point in Green Bay with the Packers. In 2025, Doubs — in his fourth season — had his most prolific season in terms of receiving yards, hauling in 55 catches for 724 yards and six touchdowns.
Originally a fourth-round pick by Green Bay, Doubs will be looked to provide additional support in the passing game for Maye, New England’s third-year quarterback. This is especially true in the wake of the news that the Patriots cut Stefon Diggs, the first receiver to cross the 1,000-yard threshold in New England since Julian Edelman in 2019.
Doubs, a 6-foot-2 wideout, does have playoff experience. In four career postseason games, he has 20 catches for 371 yards and two touchdowns.
After being linked to several wide receivers already during the offseason (including Colts WR Alec Pierce and A.J. Brown of the Eagles), the Patriots seem to have acquired help at the position from a lesser-suspected source in Doubs.
The NFL’s new league year formally begins on Wednesday, March 11 at 4 p.m. (players can’t sign contracts with new teams before then).
