Pat Cummins Matches Imran Khan’s Historic Test Record

Australia captain Pat Cummins has reached a major milestone in Test cricket, previously achieved only by former Pakistan captain Imran Khan, during the ongoing Ashes series against England.

Cummins completed 150 Test wickets as captain, becoming just the second skipper in Test history to achieve this feat. Imran Khan remains the only captain ahead of him on the list, having taken 187 wickets while leading Pakistan.

The milestone was reached in the third Ashes Test at the Adelaide Oval. Cummins took three wickets on Day 4, raising his tally to 151 wickets as captain.

In the match, England were bowled out for 286 in their first innings in reply to Australia’s 371 all out. Cummins claimed 3 wickets in the first innings and then removed England’s top three batters, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, and Joe Root, in the fourth innings, leaving England at 109/3 while chasing 435 runs.

Cummins finished Day 4 with figures of 3/23 from 10 overs and ended the second innings with 3/69. This was his 38th Test as captain, and he now has 151 wickets at an average of 22-plus, including nine five-wicket hauls and one four-wicket haul.

Earlier in the match, Cummins also dismissed Joe Root for the 13th time in red-ball cricket, the most by any bowler against the former England captain.

The Australian skipper also moved to sixth place on Australia’s all-time list of leading Test wicket-takers, overtaking Mitchell Johnson.

Notably, Cummins missed the first two matches of the series due to injury but made a strong return in Adelaide.
