Pakistan Sports Board Unveils Major Reform Plan

The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has approved a major reform agenda aimed at improving athletic performance, with a new focus on results and Olympic cycles.

A key part of the reforms is the introduction of a Long-Term Athlete Development Programme. This program shifts the emphasis toward consistent performance and preparation aligned with Olympic timelines.

The board has also approved a significant increase in the sports budget, raising it from Rs. 1.2 billion to Rs. 4.9 billion. The increase is pending approval from the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Under the new plan, funding will be directly linked to performance, signaling a results-driven approach to resource allocation aimed at meeting growing international requirements for athlete training, coaching, promotion, and federation grants.

In addition, all sports federations have been instructed to submit detailed four-year plans within 90 days. These plans are expected to align with the new performance-based framework and long-term development goals.

The board also reaffirmed a strict stance on doping, emphasizing zero tolerance. Stricter governance rules will be enforced to ensure transparency and accountability across all federations.

These reforms mark a shift toward structured planning, performance accountability, and stronger oversight in Pakistan’s sports system.
