Pakistan Fast Bowler Threatens Legal Action Over ‘Absurd Fake News’ Allegations

Pakistan left-arm fast bowler Salman Mirza has said he will pursue legal action after what he called “absurd” and “unverified” claims were aired about him.

A news outlet ran a story linking Salman Mirza to alleged misconduct during the national team’s tour of Sri Lanka for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

In a social media statement shared, the Pakistan pacer condemned the broadcast and criticized the “cheap journalism,” warning that media organizations should not run unverified allegations.

He added that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had already rejected the claims and said he would move legally against the journalist and outlet involved. The Instagram story also names a journalist and a local channel, matching reports carried by multiple outlets.

The PCB, in a separate response earlier in the day, dismissed the allegations as false and “agenda-driven,” warning that it reserves the right to take action against those responsible for spreading what it described as malicious claims.

In its statement, the board demanded a public apology from the reporter linked to the broadcast and said it would take “all necessary steps” if that did not happen.

The controversy began after a local broadcast claimed a Pakistan World Cup squad member had been involved in inappropriate behavior at a hotel in Kandy, Sri Lanka, and that hotel staff had lodged a complaint with team management.

The report further alleged that, after an internal review, the player was found to have breached the code of conduct and was fined. Those assertions were rejected by the PCB, which said the broadcast was based on unverified information.
