Oscar Pistorius was released from prison on parole two years ago and has lived a largely quiet life away from the public eye ever since.
In February 2013, the world was stunned when it emerged that the Paralympian had shot and killed his model girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, during the early hours of the morning.
Pistorius has always maintained that he mistook Reeva for an intruder. He was initially found guilty of manslaughter, but that conviction was later upgraded to murder – a decision that brought some relief to Reeva’s parents, June and Barry.
In January 2024, Pistorius was released on parole after spending almost a decade behind bars.
As part of his parole conditions, the 39-year-old is banned from speaking to the media, giving interviews, or writing memoirs. That restriction partly explains why so little is known about his current life.
What is known is that Pistorius is restricted to the Waterkloof district of Pretoria, where he lives in a fortified mansion owned by his uncle, Arnold Pistorius.
Within weeks of his release, reports suggested that Pistorius rarely left the property, with family members travelling to see him instead.

There were claims he had gained weight and taken up smoking while in prison, though it was later reported that he was working to improve his fitness and spending time playing video games.
Security at the property is said to be tight, with the family remaining fearful of a potential backlash or revenge attack.
In addition to media restrictions, Pistorius is required to attend compulsory therapy and correctional programmes focusing on gender-based violence, anger management and community service.

Officials conduct unannounced visits to ensure compliance, and he remains under curfew. Any breach of his conditions could see him returned to prison.
Since his release, Pistorius is also believed to have turned to religion.
He has reportedly become a regular attendee at NG Kerk Waterkloof in Pretoria, where he has worked as a volunteer caretaker and janitor, helping with cleaning and maintenance.
Witnesses have previously said he keeps a low profile during services, sitting at the back, avoiding eye contact and cutting a solemn figure.
Though greyer than during his athletics career, the man once known as the “Blade Runner” is also believed to have entered a new relationship.
Pistorius is said to be dating Rita Greyling, a business management consultant and long-time family friend whose family has known the Pistoriuses for decades.

While little is known about the relationship, her resemblance to Steenkamp has not gone unnoticed.
In April 2024, Pistorius was photographed publicly for the first time since his release, leaving the Department of Correctional Services offices in Pretoria wearing a grey jacket and white shirt.
Last June, he received permission to compete in an Ironman 70.3 triathlon in Durban, finishing 555th overall.
For the Steenkamp family, the pain has endured.
Reeva’s father, Barry, died in September 2023 aged 80. During Pistorius’ time in prison, Barry had met with him and implored him to admit he murdered Reeva – something Pistorius has consistently denied.
Reeva’s mother, June Steenkamp, suffered a stroke last year. The family has chosen to keep details of her condition private.
