After helping the community for over 25 years – and officially moving into their refurbished Holden Hill home just 12 months ago – not-for-profit Nonna’s Cucina is already taking its next step, unveiling a western Hub in Seaton.
This new site will function first as a volunteer base and distribution point, helping Nonna’s rapidly growing team deliver fresh, hot, Italian-inspired meals to elderly and vulnerable residents across the western suburbs.
“We’re delivering over 200 hot meals daily to clients in the west,” shares General Manager Dario Fabretto. “The Seaton site is well located and gives our volunteers easy access to get meals to those in the community who need it most.”
For now, the hub won’t be open to the public. It’s designed to support the volunteers who are out on the road Monday to Friday, ensuring older South Australians can remain independent, nourished and connected to community. But it’s only the beginning.
“We have plans to transform the site within the next 12 months into a reheat facility to further improve the quality and efficiency of our meal service,” Fabretto says, another investment into an ageing population who increasingly rely on meal delivery services to stay safe at home.
The nearly 100 volunteers are at the heart of everything Nonna’s Cucina does, from packing and delivering meals to assisting in the kitchens. The new Seaton space gives them a warm and well-located place to gather, share a coffee, and head out on their delivery runs together.
It also speaks to a bigger picture. The charity’s brand and awareness has grown dramatically since opening in Holden Hill. Demand has risen. Need has risen. And the desire to help has risen right alongside it.
“We’re so grateful for the volunteers who donate their time every week,” Fabretto says. “But we always need more hands and more big hearts.”
Those keen to get involved can enquire about driving or assisting in deliveries, using their own car, and working between 10:30am and 1:30pm Monday to Friday.
While there’s still no confirmed “grand opening” date for the Seaton hub, the excitement from long-time supporters is spreading across social media. And for good reason. It’s a new chapter for a much-loved service that has always believed a home-cooked meal can be a lifeline. Plus, there’s not much (if anything) that can rival the food that comes out of Nonna’s kitchen. Take it from me.
