Maybe you haven’t heard of Matt Johnson, Jay McCarrol or their Canadian sitcom series, Nirvanna the Band the Show. Well, that’s about to change, thanks to a feature film adaptation arriving from the duo and Neon this February!
For the uninitiated, the mockumentary-style series follows fictionalized versions of Matt, Jay, and their band, Nirvanna the Band. In the upcoming film entitled Nirvanna the Show the Band the Movie, when their plan to book a show at the Rivoli goes horribly wrong, Matt and Jay accidentally travel back to the year 2008. Now, they must find a way to get…back to the future. Great Scott!
This feels a little like Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure crossed wires with Spinal Tap and tripped over Jackass…and I’m digging it. We can never have too many time travel tales, especially ones that star a pair of doofuses. The film touts no actors and a guerrilla filmmaking format, so expect plenty of laughs as surprised onlookers find themselves a part of whatever hijinks these guys are getting into.
It’s time for Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie when Neon unleashes the film in theaters on February 13th, 2026.
