The already delayed Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Walpurgisnacht Rising is getting postponed once again. While the anime movie sequel was scheduled to premiere in February of this year, an update says that production circumstances have caused a change to its release window, and February will now see the announcement of a new release date instead.
Previously, the movie, which was announced in April 2021, was slated for a winter 2024 release before being pushed back to winter 2025. It was getting trailers as recently as December 2025.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Walpurgisnacht Rising is a sequel to the 2013 film Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Rebellion, itself a sequel to the 2011 TV anime Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Crunchyroll describes the original show as such:
She has a loving family and best friends, laughs and cries from time to time… Madoka Kaname, an eighth grader of Mitakihara middle school, is one of those who lives such a life. One day, she had a very magical encounter. She doesn’t know if it happened by chance or by fate yet. This is a fateful encounter that can change her destiny- This is a beginning of the new story of the magical witch girls.
In addition to the main Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime, there was a TV anime adaptation of the now-defunct Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story gacha game. The spin-off anime was split into three seasons (the second season had eight episodes, while Final Season had four), which aired between 2020 to 2022.
A new Madoka Magica game titled Madoka Magica: Magia Exedra launched on mobile on March 27, 2025 and arrived on Steam on July 17 of the same year.
