Nad Al Sheba volleyball opens with five-set win

Yazar opened the volleyball programme at the 13th Nad Al Sheba Sports Tournament with a 3-2 win over Fahoud Zaabeel in Dubai.

The match went the distance, with little separating the sides across five sets. Yazar eventually took it on small margins after a long contest at the Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex.

Volleyball continues on Saturday, February 28, with Al Samaawi playing Fahoud Zaabeel at 9pm in Group A. Group B resumes on Sunday, March 1, with Zaabeel facing MI Investment at 9pm, followed by Tiger Zabeel against Al Tadawi at 11pm.

Seven teams are split across two pools. Group A includes Fahoud Zaabeel, Yazar and Al Samaawi. Group B features Zaabeel, Al Tadawi, MI Investment and Tiger Zabeel.

UAE to face Egypt in padel teams final

The UAE will play Egypt in the final of the tournament’s padel teams competition after both won their semi-finals on Friday.

The hosts beat Kuwait 2-0, with Sergio Icardo and Iñigo Khufri winning 6-1, 6-1, before Fares Al Janahi and Abdullah Al Abdullah followed with a 6-1, 7-6 victory over Hussein Shams and Abdullah Al Awadhi.

Egypt needed three matches to get past Morocco, winning 2-1. Ali Zaghloul and Sherif Makhlouf gave Egypt the lead with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Mohamed and Adam Momar, before Morocco levelled through El Omrani Reda and Mehdi Ziadi, who beat Omar Makhlouf and Mohamed El Menisi 6-3, 6-0. Egypt sealed the tie as Mohamed El Garhy and Mohamed Abou El Qassem won 6-4, 6-2 against Makwar Ali and Khalil Outalib.

Dubai Courts and Dubai Municipality lead wheelchair basketball groups

Dubai Courts lead Group A in the wheelchair basketball competition after three days with three wins from three, six points and a points difference of +31.

They beat the Community Development Authority 30-23 on Thursday night, while the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) defeated Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services 35-18 in the same group.

In Group B, Dubai Municipality stayed top with another win, beating Dubai Police General Headquarters 31-15. Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) edged the Department of Finance 29-27.

After 12 of the 20 group matches, organisers said 684 points have been scored, an average of 57 per game.

Group matches continue on Saturday, February 28, at Dubai Club for People of Determination in Al Ghusais, with four fixtures:

  • Swank Real Estate Development vs RTA (9.30am)
  • FEIC vs Dubai Police (10.20am)
  • Community Development Authority vs Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services (11.10am)
  • DEWA vs Dubai Municipality (12 noon)

The semi-finals are scheduled for Monday, March 2, followed by the bronze medal match on Tuesday, March 3, and the final on Wednesday, March 4 at Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex.

Organisers also said spectators at the Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex will be eligible for daily raffle draws, including cars and smartphones.
