The Municipal Workers Trade Union Alliance has announced its first protest of the year, with municipal employees demanding payment of pending dues for retired workers, higher pensions, and the implementation of previously announced salary increases for serving staff.
According to 24News, the protest is scheduled for January 20 outside the Karachi Municipal Corporation head office on MA Jinnah Road.
Speaking to reporters, Zulfiqar Shah, president of the Alliance, said the demonstration will expose what he described as the failure of the Sindh government and the Karachi Municipal Corporation to honor commitments related to employee pay and pensions.
He said the Alliance has already sent formal notices to both the provincial government and KMC to inform them about the planned protest.
Shah added that municipal workers from across Sindh are preparing to join the rally, calling it the first major labor action of 2026.
The Alliance said the protest will remain peaceful but resolute, with workers seeking long overdue salary increases and pension revisions.
