Max Verstappen has disclosed that he maintains frequent communication with Christian Horner, more than half a year since the team principal’s departure from Red Bull Racing.
The four-time world champion receives messages from his former boss on every grand prix weekend.
“Friday, Saturday and Sunday, mostly by text message. But also on holiday, for example. Every week. Every race weekend,” Verstappen told Viaplay.
The Dutch driver described Horner as his “biggest fan” who sends words of encouragement such as “good luck” and “I believe in you.”

Verstappen spoke warmly of their partnership, stating: “Christian really went through fire for me.”
Horner’s tenure at the Milton Keynes outfit came to an abrupt conclusion following last year’s British Grand Prix in July.
The 52-year-old had served Red Bull for two decades, guiding the team to six constructors’ championships and eight drivers’ titles.
His dismissal arrived during a challenging period for the Austrian squad, which had secured merely two victories in the opening portion of the 2025 campaign.
“Things weren’t going particularly well for the whole team,” Verstappen acknowledged. “In terms of results, there was a bit of unrest in the team.”

The shareholders ultimately pressed for leadership changes, dissatisfied with the team’s trajectory.
Verstappen admitted that watching Horner depart proved emotionally taxing, given the depth of their professional relationship.
The pair forged a particularly strong connection during the dramatic 2021 championship season, memories which remain vivid for the Dutchman.
“Ultimately, it’s always difficult. You’ve built up a bond with Christian and achieved so much especially in 2021, including those moments. You never forget that,” Verstappen reflected.
Their conversations extend beyond motorsport matters, with the former team principal continuing to offer support despite his exit.
“Things like that are always difficult when you talk to each other on the phone,” the four-time champion added, acknowledging the bittersweet nature of their ongoing dialogue.
Laurent Mekies, formerly of Racing Bulls, assumed control following Horner’s exit and has overseen a notable transformation in team morale.

Verstappen secured six victories from the final nine races of the season, though he narrowly missed a fifth world title, finishing two points behind Lando Norris at the Abu Dhabi finale.
The Dutch driver has observed a marked improvement in the working environment at Milton Keynes.
“The team is doing well. We have a lot of confidence. You see people smiling, there’s a great atmosphere, everyone gets on well with each other and that’s something we missed at one point,” Verstappen explained.
“The Red Bull style had been lost or gone a bit. That has definitely returned.”
