Marukome’s New Ryotei no Aji Animated Commercial Follows a Grandma in Hokkaido

Miso company Marukome has released the 14th installment in its Ryotei no Aji animated commercial series. The 90-second anime short, titled Watashi no Obaa-chan-hen, follows a 97-year-old grandmother who lives alone in Sapporo, Hokkaido and her loving but physically distant grown-up granddaughter.

The CONTRAIL-produced animation was directed and storyboarded by the company’s Yasuyuki Kitazawa. Kitazawa was also one of the key animators.

The Ryotei no Aji animation series began in 2014 and features a family theme. Ryotei no Aji is also the name of Marukome’s miso with dashi stock product line, which was introduced in 1982. Marukome translates the name as “premium, restaurant-quality taste.”
