A family dispute on the night of Holika Dahan ended in a chilling murder in Chhattisgarh, where a man allegedly hacked his father to death with an axe and dumped the body in a water tank beside the house before calmly eating biryani and going to sleep.
FATHER KILLED ON HOLIKA DAHAN NIGHT
The incident took place in Chhattisgarh’s Ambikapur town. Police have arrested the accused son the same night.
According to information received, the victim, Paras Kerketta, around 50, lived in a separate house. His son, Prabhat Kerketta alias Leda, lived a few houses away, with two rented houses separating their residences.
Police and eyewitness accounts suggest that at around 11 pm on the night of Holika Dahan, Prabhat returned home in an intoxicated state. His father objected and reprimanded him. What began as a scolding soon spiralled into a heated argument.
In a fit of rage, Prabhat allegedly picked up a axe kept inside the house and struck his father multiple times on the head. Paras sustained severe injuries and died on the spot.
BODY DUMPED IN WATER TANK
After the killing, the accused is said to have dragged the body and thrown it into a small water tank located beside the house. Investigators say that after disposing of the body, he went to a nearby shop, ate biryani and returned home, where he covered himself with a blanket and slept.
Police later took him into custody. During questioning, he admitted to carrying out the attack in anger.
RELATIVE SPEAKS
Rakesh Pradhan, a relative of the deceased, said, “He was my brother-in-law. The younger son killed his father at night and threw the body into the tank next to the house. The police took the younger son with them the same night.”
POLICE INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY
The investigating officer from Manipur police station said, “The son attacked his father on the head with a sharp weapon. The father has died. We are investigating.”
Police are continuing their probe into the circumstances leading to the crime. Photographs from the spot show the crime scene, police examining the area and the accused in custody.
