MANSEHRA: A man was killed after falling from a chairlift over the Indus River in the Taraiz Banda area of Lower Kohistan on Thursday.
“The man first helped his son disembark from the chairlift, but it suddenly started moving backward, resultantly he lost his balance and fell on the riverside hundreds of feet below,” Malik Sharif, an official of Rescue 1122, told reporters.
The chairlift, locally known as Doli, which is used to transport people and goods across the Indus River in the Jalkot area, reportedly developed a technical fault and began moving backwards, causing Abdul Wakeel, 42, to fall on the riverside.
He said that local residents, with the help of Rescue 1122 personnel, recovered the body and shifted it to a nearby hospital, where it was handed over to the family after completing legal formalities.
Meanwhile, a man was shot dead in Torghar district.
According to the police, unidentified assailants opened fire on Mohammad Sajid, a resident of Oghi, killing him on the spot.
Locals shifted the body to a nearby health facility, where doctors carried out a postmortem examination before handing it over to the family.
