A new Adelaide restaurant is taking the design world by storm, making the list for the 2026 Restaurant & Bar Design Awards.

Huami is the latest luxe dining addition at SkyCity Adelaide, which opened its doors last spring. The premium dining destination takes Chinese cooking to the next level, with authentic flavours brought to life through modern techniques and contemporary composition.

The restaurant has joined a list of standout restaurants and bars from all over the globe, each recognised for its inspiring and unique design that transports the diner out of the venue, taking them on an immersive journey that is framed by design.

The Restaurant & Bar Design Awards started in 2009 in London, and have since been acknowledged as the leading international competition dedicated to the design of food and beverage spaces. The awards celebrate the world’s most creative spaces and the individuals and organisations behind them, covering everything from ultra-luxe fine dining destinations to concept-led fast casual hangouts.

Huami was designed by Hong Kong-based studio Paring Onions, who took inspiration from Cantonese Opera, creating an opulent space in which every guest becomes part of the story. Designed as a celebration of Chinese artistry, the room features a great wall of smoking pipes in the entryway, which leads to majestic dragon columns in the main dining room.

Huami is set within SkyCity Adelaide’s distinct curvilinear glass form, offering panoramic views across the Festival and Riverbank Precinct. Originally led by architect Buchan, the now iconic building was envisioned to embody opulence, offering a spatial and sensory experience that is both distinct and unified.

The interior and exterior of the restaurant are just as impressive as the food and drink menus, making it no surprise that Huami made the list. Joining Huami is a lineup of world-class venues from all over the globe. Other Australian venues that have made the 2026 list include Fortitude Valley’s Winnifred’s (designed by Studio Odea), Walsh Bay’s Folio and Gymea’s Roam (both designed by Like Minds Studio), Sydney’s S’WICH (designed by Studio Shand), Melbourne’s Lafayette (designed by Canopy Fitouts), and Sydney’s Akti (designed by Perry Drakopoulos).

With the winners set to be announced in early October, Huami’s inclusion already places Adelaide firmly on the global design map, highlighting the city’s growing reputation for venues that deliver just as much visually as they do on the plate. This is not just a nod to the venue itself, but to the broader evolution of SkyCity Adelaide as a destination that combines architecture, hospitality, and immersive experiences.

For diners, it means there’s never been a better time to book a table and see what all the fuss is about. Whether you’re drawn in by the theatrical interiors or staying for the refined take on Cantonese cuisine, Huami offers a dining experience that goes well beyond the expected.
