The Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, Aalia Neelum, has expressed strong displeasure over disruptions caused by the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) matches, particularly road closures and the failure to produce an accused in court.
The remarks came during the hearing of a bail application filed by an accused, Ali Ameer, in a fraud case.
During the proceedings, the chief justice questioned law enforcement authorities on why the suspect was not presented before the court. She criticized the situation, suggesting that the ongoing PSL 11 matches had led to negligence on the part of the police.
Expressing concern over the matter, the court summoned the Punjab Chief Secretary and Home Secretary, directing them to appear immediately and explain the situation.
During the hearing, the complainant’s counsel, Ejaz Bhatti, informed the court that a case had been registered against the accused in Liaquatabad. He alleged that the suspect had unlawfully seized property worth Rs. 40 million belonging to the complainant.
The petitioner’s lawyer further argued that the court had earlier ordered the trial to proceed on a day-to-day basis. However, due to heightened security arrangements during PSL 2026 matches, the accused has repeatedly not been presented in court, causing delays in the trial.
The petition requested the court to grant bail to the accused, citing prolonged delays in the legal proceedings.
