Kyoto Animation has announced that it will produce an anime adaptation of Masaoki Shindo‘s RuriDragon manga. No release date was given.
The manga follows a teenager who discovers that she has dragon ancestry. Originally a one-shot, it made its serialization debut in June 2022 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump.
RuriDragon marks the latest addition to Kyoto Animation’s slate of upcoming anime, which includes Sound! Euphonium, The Final Movie Part 1 and Sparks of Tomorrow.
After six chapters, the RuriDragon manga went on hiatus until March 2024. Following the end of hiatus, a few chapters were released in WSJ before the manga moved to the magazine’s digital version and Shonen Jump+ in April 2024. The post-hiatus schedule saw new chapters coming out every other issue.
An animated promotional video for the manga, animated by coalowl and set to ZUTOMAYO’s “MIRROR TUNE,” was released in March.
Here’s the manga’s synopsis from Viz Media:
Well, a half dragon. Her mom admits Ruri inherited her draconic traits from her father, who, yes, is actually a dragon. As if dealing with curious classmates wasn’t already challenging enough, Ruri and her dragon genes literally turn up the heat in the middle of a lecture. Her ordinary life is about to be anything but!
