A Kickstarter project to adapt Junji Ito‘s In Old Records into a vinyl audio drama has launched.
The vinyl release, simply titled Old Records, comes from Zero Zero Enterprises. Writer Ryan Cady (co-author of the Warframe and Old Man Logan Annual comics) is handling the adaptation of Ito’s horror one-shot. Meanwhile, music artists Poppy and Shoko Nakagawa are providing the voices for the English and Japanese performances, respectively.
Acky Bright is in charge of the jacket’s design, which sports a bloody handprint imprinted by Ito.
The crowdfunding campaign will run for 30 days and seeks to raise US$20 thousand. The backer options are:
• Early Bird Standard Vinyl (US$25): Get the Standard English Version Vinyl by Junji Ito and narrated by Poppy for a $10 discount! Only 200 available.
• Standard Vinyl (US$35): The Standard English Version Vinyl by Junji Ito and narrated by Poppy
• Blood Splatter Limited Edition (US$50): A Limited Blood Splatter Variant Edition, 500 available.
• Ghostly Blue Variant (US$100): A Ghostly Blue Vinyl Variant signed by Poppy, 400 available.
• Glow in the Dark Variant (US$125): A Glow in the Dark Variant signed by Poppy, limited to 100.
• Test Pressing (US$200): Get one of the rare test pressings made for promotion. This is perfect for vinyl collectors.
• Retailer Bundle (US$200): Get 10 Vinyls at wholesales cost as a retailer proof of store must be provided pre shipment.
• Signed by Junji Ito and Poppy (US$750): Every version of the vinyl with the Glow in the Dark Variant will be signed by both Junji Ito and Poppy. Only 10 are available.
In Old Records was released in the December 1990 issue of Monthly HALLOWEEN and included in the 10th volume of the Horror World of Junji Ito. The story involves a cursed record containing the song of a dead singer.
