Voice actor Kappei Yamaguchi is joining the voice cast of the upcoming anime film Shingekijoban Gintama -Yoshiwara Daienjo- as Enkaku — an anime-original character. The film is scheduled to premiere in Japan on February 13, 2026.
The Yoshiwara Daienjo anime film adapts the “Yoshiwara Enjo” story arc that was previously covered by the Gintama TV anime series from episodes 139 to 146 and will include new content.
Naoya Ando (Paradox Live THE ANIMATION, Kemono Friends 2 assistant director) is directing the new anime film, with Yoichi Fujita (Gintama director) as supervisor, Taku Kishimoto (Sakamoto Days series composer, the upcoming The Keeper of the Camphor Tree) as scriptwriter, Shinji Takeuchi (Gintama) as character designer and chief animation director, Ritsuko Utagawa (Gintama) as color designer, Chiho Wada (From Bureaucrat to Villainess: Dad’s Been Reincarnated!) as background art director, Mari Gomyo as compositing director, and original manga creator Hideaki Sorachi as super advisor gorilla. BN Pictures is handling the animation production.
Meanwhile, the main voice cast stars Tomokazu Sugita as Gintoki Sakata, Daisuke Sakaguchi as Shinpachi Shimura, and Rie Kugimiya as Kagura.
The Gintama TV anime premiered from 2006 to 2018 for four seasons. In addition to the TV series, the series has inspired a few anime films, including 2021’s Gintama THE FINAL and the recent Gintama on Theater 2D films which are theatrical re-edits of previously adapted arcs.
Gintama is based on Sorachi’s manga series, which was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from December 8, 2003 to September 15, 2018. It was transferred to Jump Giga from December 28, 2018 to February 22, 2019. The manga completed its publication in the free Gintama app from May 13, 2019 to June 20, 2019. Seventy-seven total tankobon volumes were released in Japan. VIZ Media released the manga’s first 23 tankobon volumes in English until 2011.
An anime adaptation of the 3-nen Z-gumi Ginpachi-sensei spin-off premiered in October of this year.
