A joyous wedding celebration in a Jharkhand village turned into a scene of grief late on Friday night when 41-year-old Lalit Singh tragically died after choking on a rasgulla during the wedding feast.

“The moment it happened, his face turned pale and he started gasping,” said one relative present at the scene. Panic spread through the gathering as family and villagers attempted to dislodge the sweet from his throat.
Despite frantic efforts at the venue to free Lalit, they were unsuccessful. Seeing his condition worsen, family members and villagers rushed him to the MGM Hospital. Doctors examined him immediately but were unable to revive him and declared him dead.
Doctors explained that the rasgulla had blocked his airway, preventing oxygen from reaching his body, which led to his sudden death. The post-mortem was conducted on Saturday, after which the body was handed over to the family.
The incident cast a pall over what should have been a day of celebration. Villagers and relatives expressed deep sorrow, with the joyous atmosphere of the wedding giving way to mourning.
“This was such a sudden and heartbreaking loss,” said a neighbour. “The entire village is in shock. We were all celebrating, and in an instant, our joy turned into grief.”
The tragedy serves as a grim reminder of how quickly celebrations can turn catastrophic, leaving families and communities in profound grief.
