Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is once again in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons, after an airport incident with a fan turned ugly and went viral.
The video, which has been widely shared on social media, shows a version of Bumrah that is a far cry from the calm, smiling poster-boy image usually pushed by the Indian media.
The incident took place at an airport where Bumrah was standing in a check‑in queue. A fan began filming a selfie-style video with Bumrah in the background, apparently without asking for permission.
As per the clip, Bumrah seemed visibly annoyed and did not want to entertain the fan. The exchange on camera goes like this:
- Fan: “Aapke saath hi jaunga sir main” (I’ll go with you only, sir).
- Bumrah: “Phone gir gya aapka to mereko bolna nahi” (If your phone falls, don’t blame me).
- Fan: “Koi baat nahi sir” (That’s okay, sir).
- Bumrah: “Cool.”
Right after that casual “Cool,” Bumrah’s patience clearly snaps: he grabs the phone from the fan’s hand and tosses it aside, then walks off to continue his check‑in like nothing out of the ordinary just happened. Here’s the video:
Online, plenty of fans have called this out as entitled and arrogant. While some on social media believed that the fan was being intrusive, everyone agreed that the Indian international does not have the right to snatch someone’s phone.
This isn’t the first incident of Bumrah being rude and arrogant. During the Test series against South Africa, stump mics caught Bumrah referring to Proteas captain Temba Bavuma as “bauna,” a Hindi term meaning “dwarf.”
Despite the incident clearly falling into the territory of “personal, insulting or offensive” language under the ICC Code of Conduct, there has been no reported suspension, no high-profile fine, no public censure that might make a player of his standing think twice.
