Jason Gillespie Reveals the Exact Reason Why He Left Pakistan Cricket

Australian legend and former Head Coach of Pakistan, Jason Gillespie, has publicly explained why his time with Pakistan cricket ended, revealing that a breakdown in trust with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) pushed him to walk away from the job.

Replying to a fan on social media who asked why he opted out of Pakistan cricket, Gillespie said he had been working as head coach of the Pakistan Test side when the PCB abruptly dismissed his senior assistant coach.

According to him, the decision was taken without any discussion or prior communication with him, despite his position as head coach.

He wrote that the PCB “sacked our senior assistant coach with ZERO communication with me about it – as Head Coach I found this situation completely unacceptable,” adding that there were “a number of other issues which left me completely humiliated.”

The Aussie has even admitted once that his troubled spell with Pakistan has turned him off full-time coaching, admitting the experience has left him questioning whether he wants to return to the job at all.

Gillespie took charge of Pakistan’s Test side, and later the white-ball team in April 2024, but his tenure was cut short in December after a turbulent period marked by poor communication and disagreements with the PCB.

Following Gary Kirsten’s departure, Gillespie was also asked to oversee the white-ball side on an interim basis and guided Pakistan to a rare ODI series victory in Australia, but he resigned soon afterwards.

He revealed that internal politics and a lack of unity within the setup played a significant role in his decision to walk away. Gillespie also criticized Aqib Javed, who later took over as interim head coach, accusing the former Pakistan pacer of working against him while he was in charge and bluntly describing him as “a clown.”
