Authorities in Pakistan’s federal capital have decided to tighten regulatory action against unregistered private educational institutions operating in Islamabad.
According to officials, private institutions that are currently unregistered have been given a two-month deadline to complete their registration.
Meanwhile, the Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) has announced a one-time amnesty for institutions facing delays in renewing their registration, extending the renewal fee deadline until April 30.
The decision was made during an important meeting chaired by PEIRA Chairman Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah, which reviewed issues related to unregistered institutions and those awaiting registration renewal. The meeting also discussed the preparation and analysis of student enrollment data from private schools across Islamabad.
Officials said the primary aim of the meeting was to strengthen the data collection system and ensure the accuracy and verification of student enrollment records maintained by private educational institutions.
Addressing the meeting, Dr. Mallah emphasized the importance of reliable and verified data for promoting transparency, enabling informed decision-making, and ensuring effective regulation of the private education sector.
During the discussion, representatives of private educational institutions requested a one-time waiver of penalties imposed due to delays in registration renewal. They also sought a two-month extension to submit applications for new registration or renewal.
