Authorities in Islamabad have decided to take strict action against taxi services operating without official registration in the federal capital.
According to the district administration, all online ride-hailing and taxi services will now be required to complete formal registration. As part of this process, complete records of drivers and vehicles will be collected.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner (East) has been directed to contact the chief executives of all taxi service companies to ensure compliance with the new policy.
The Deputy Commissioner Islamabad has also instructed the secretary of the transport authority to launch a crackdown against unregistered motorcycle taxi operators. Under the new system, the registration of all vehicles and motorcycles currently operating without approval will be carried out through a digital automation process.
Once registered, all data will be accessible to Islamabad Police through a dedicated application. After registration, drivers will be required to upload passenger details on the app for every trip. Without entering a passenger’s national identity card number, drivers will not be allowed to pick up or transport any rider.
On the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, the formal registration process will begin from tomorrow, marking a major step towards regulating online transport services and improving passenger safety in the city.
