Iran Confirms Death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has been killed, according to Iranian state media. The announcement followed large-scale US and Israeli airstrikes across Iran.

US President Donald Trump had earlier said Khamenei was killed during the joint military operation. He added that bombing would continue and described the moment as “the single greatest chance for the Iranian people to take back their country.”

Two sources, one from intelligence and one from the military, told CBS News that about 40 Iranian officials died in the strikes. They said Khamenei was among those killed. Israel separately stated that it had eliminated seven other senior officials during the operation.

In response, Iran launched retaliatory attacks across the Middle East. Reports of apparent Iranian strikes emerged from Dubai, Doha, Bahrain and Kuwait. These locations either host US military bases or maintain close alliances with Washington.

Meanwhile, the humanitarian toll continues to rise. Iran’s Red Crescent said more than 200 people have died across the country. Iranian officials also reported that at least 108 people were killed when US and Israeli strikes hit a girls’ school.
