IndiGo flyer attempts to open emergency exit, arrested after landing in Varanasi

A passenger on an IndiGo flight from Bengaluru to Varanasi tried to open the aircraft’s emergency exit twice, including once just before landing, triggering panic on board. The incident took place on flight 6E 185 on March 28.

Crew members first noticed the passenger attempting to tamper with the emergency exit mid-flight, as per sources. He made a second attempt when the aircraft was on final approach to Varanasi. The cabin crew acted swiftly and prevented any breach, ensuring the safety of all passengers.

Standard operating procedures (SOPs) were followed, and the situation was handled without escalation. The flight landed safely at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport at around 10:35 pm. There was no go-around triggered due to the passenger’s actions, as per available information.

Upon landing, the passenger was handed over to airport security personnel, including CISF, in line with protocol.

The accused has been identified as Mohammad Adnan, a resident of Mau district in Uttar Pradesh. A case has been registered against him under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and he has been taken into custody.

Police said the accused had recently travelled to Goa and was returning from the trip.

During questioning, the accused reportedly told police he was unaware that pressing a button could open the aircraft door. Officials said multiple agencies, including ATS and IB, have also questioned him, and further investigation is underway.
