Saya Fukase is directing the anime adaptation at IMAGICA Infos and Imageworks Studio. UWAN Pictures is credited with the production cooperation.
The Hyakki Yakusho horror mystery manga series was first launched by Ichiko Ima in Asahi Shimbun Publishing’s Nemuki magazine in 1995. It was later moved to the Nemuki+ magazine in April 2013 after Nemuki ceased publication in 2012. A total of 31 tankobon volumes have been released in Japan as of April 2024, with a 32nd volume set to be published on April 7, 2026.
The now-defunct Aurora Publishing licensed the manga series for English release under the title Beyond Twilight. Only one volume was published by the company in 2010. The main synopsis of the first volume is described, via Amazon, as:
Since birth, Ritsu has inherited the ability to see spirits and demons from his novelist grandfather, a sort of sixth sense. However, when his grandfather passes away, he loses the protection he had when under his care and ends up forming a contract with a demon named Blue Storm.
