Housing confidence soars as SA outpaces every other state

South Australia has taken a lead role in the nation’s property confidence, surging ahead with record high index scores in the Property Council of Australia’s recent Industry Sentiment Survey. The survey positions South Australia at 151 index points, marking a significant 9-point increase since the last survey and a considerable 28-point margin over the national average.

This achievement underscores strong industry approval of the South Australian government’s effective management and strategic policy planning within the housing sector. Nick Champion, Minister for Housing and Urban Development, commented on the achievement, stating, “There is momentum in South Australia, with more cranes in the sky than ever before and housing growth across Adelaide from north-to-south.” He also pointed out the rapid pace at which the government is working to ensure sufficient housing supply meets market demand.

The SA Government received exceptional recognition for its management, achieving nearly 80 index points on the State Government Performance Index. This score is notably the highest ever for any state government and far surpasses other states, with Western Australia scoring just over 20 and Victoria lagging significantly behind.

This remarkable sentiment is a clear endorsement of more than 12 months of advancements under Premier Malinauskas’s Housing Roadmap. The Roadmap features considerable achievements, including increased home constructions, the release of more land for future housing, and an unprecedented $1.5 billion investment dedicated to enhancing water infrastructure essential for supporting housing growth.

Adding to the state’s ambitious housing initiatives, the government has recently announced plans to set up a $500 million pre-sale guarantee fund. This fund aims to foster more apartment projects within Adelaide’s Central Business District, thus fast-tracking the creation of additional residences for South Australians. Companion developments include a new partnership with Adelaide Airport to increase building heights in the CBD and the launch of a new 700-home, $900 million four-tower precinct in the East End.

Nick Champion further emphasised the encouraging industry sentiment, stating, “The results are recognition of over 12 months of achievements within the Premier’s Housing Roadmap.” He also highlighted the distinct position of South Australia in the national landscape, as the state’s score was the sole one above its historical average, making it uniquely positive compared to other jurisdictions.

Champion believes firmly that “there is no better government in Australia to work with than the Malinauskas Labor Government,” and credited the state’s success to the collaborative effort and forward-thinking policies that have been implemented.

As South Australia continues to outpace other states in housing confidence and industry approval, these results promise greater residential opportunities and economic growth for its citizens.
