Homicide detectives start investigation after a man was shot dead in unit block

A man has been shot dead in Sydney’s west, with homicide detectives now investigating.

Emergency services were called to a Newman St unit complex in Merrylands about 6.40am on Saturday, where a 44‑year‑old man was found with a gunshot wound.

Police and paramedics tried to save him, but tragically, he died at the scene.

Cumberland Police Area Command officers have established a crime scene, with the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad brought in to probe the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
