School holidays are fast approaching, and Pine-apple Creations Studio in Old Reynella is giving kids a colourful reason to get creative, with a series of hands-on acrylic paint pouring and resin workshops designed especially for the festive break.
Running across multiple dates in December, the school holiday program invites children aged 5 to 16 to experiment with acrylic pouring techniques while creating a personalised keepsake to take home. From heart or circle plaques finished with resin coating, to fun bear and keychain designs, each session offers a guided, mess-friendly introduction to one of the most mesmerising art styles around.
Mel Taylor, owner of Pine-apple Creations, says, “Everything is provided, whether you’re making an acrylic bear keychain in selected workshops, a funky canvas, or a heart or circle plyboard plaque. We do recommend not wearing your best clothes though, even with an apron on.”
She adds, “Kids get to be messy again and experience art in a relaxed environment. In a world so driven by technology, I think it’s important to get back to how kids used to play. Activities many millennials grew up with, like origami or drawing with chalk on the pavement, aren’t as common anymore, and I love being able to show kids colour, creativity and fun.”
Workshops on 16 and 17 December run from 10am to 11.30am, where kids can create a heart or circle plaque with resin coating, plus a bear or keychain piece. These sessions are priced at $45 per person, and uniquely allow adults to purchase a ticket and create alongside their child — perfect for families keen to make something together. Adults attending must hold their own ticket to participate.
For those looking for a shorter, casual option, 19 December features a keychain pop-up workshop, running between 9am and 3pm with no booking required. At just $10 per person, it’s an easy drop-in activity for both kids and adults.
The program continues on 23 and 24 December, from 12.30pm to 2pm, with an acrylic paint pour canvas workshop. Children will work on a 30 x 40cm canvas and also create a keychain to take home. These sessions are $35 per child and are strictly for kids — no adults creating in these workshops. Please note, these canvas sessions do not include resin coating.
All workshops are designed to be beginner-friendly, teaching kids the fundamentals of acrylic pouring so they can continue experimenting at home. Complimentary tea and coffee is provided for adults watching, along with soft drinks for kids — and yes, there are chocolates too.
Mel says the workshops bring a little Christmas joy to participants, with life’s simple pleasures shining through. “Kids can’t believe they get to come away with such cool, colourful artwork that they’ve created themselves.”
Children aged 5 to 12 must be accompanied by an adult, while those aged 12 to 16 may be dropped off. Finished artworks will need to be collected approximately one week after the workshop, allowing time for the paint to fully dry. If a resin clear coat has been selected, this will be completed within one to two weeks following the session.
Workshops are held at Pine-apple Creations Studio, 4/193–197 Old South Road, Old Reynella, with bookings available at pineapplecreations.art.
