Hold polls in Delhi today, will quit politics if BJP wins more than 10 seats: Arvind Kejriwal

Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, vindicated after he and others accused in the Liquor Policy Case were acquitted, dared Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP to hold elections in Delhi and see what happens. “I will quit politics if the BJP wins more than 10 seats,” Kejriwal said during a press conference hours after his acquittal.

On Friday, Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia were discharged in the Delhi excise policy case, with the Rouse Avenue delivering a sharp rebuke to the CBI and ruling that the prosecution had failed to substantiate its allegations with credible evidence.

The court held that claims of a larger conspiracy and criminal intent did not stand up to judicial scrutiny, as it discharged all 23 accused in the case, including former BRS leader K Kavitha.

Suggesting that Delhi has suffered since the BJP returned to power last February, Kejriwal said, “The entire Delhi has been ruined. The biggest consequence of PM Modi and Amit Shah’s lust for power has been borne by the three crore people of Delhi. Go and ask the people of Delhi. Today I challenge Modi ji. If you have the courage, hold elections in Delhi again. If you get more than ten seats, I will quit politics. The people of Delhi are fed up with you people”.

The AAP chief reiterated that the case was the “biggest political conspiracy in independent India,” allegedly hatched by the BJP to oust the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) from power in Delhi.

He also said that no one should “play with the country and the Constitution in this way” for the sake of power.

Kejirwal further asserted that there was no substance in the case that was filed, and it was a fabricated one from the very beginning.

“If there was any substance in this, the trial would go on for fifteen or twenty years. Numerous witnesses would be called, evidence would be presented. The court said it was a frivolous case, so fake, so useless, so wrong. I’m not saying this. There are the court’s words”, he said.

In a direct attack, Kejriwal accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of hatching the conspiracy to dethrone AAP from Delhi, and said that they should apologise to the nation.

“This entire conspiracy was hatched by two people – Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, and today they should both apologise to the entire nation. They conspired together to destroy the Aam Aadmi Party, to destroy it”.
