What began as dancing under wedding lights ended in blood and twisted metal on a busy Hardoi road in Uttar Pradesh. A late-night dispute over a DJ song allegedly turned into a calculated road attack, with a young man rammed and dragged nearly 100 metres by a Scorpio close to the Superintendent of Police’s residence. He is now battling for his life.
The incident happened on the night of February 13 near Pihani Chungi, barely a short distance from the SP bungalow. The injured man, Shiva Mishra, was rushed to the medical college, where doctors say his condition remains critical.
DJ DISPUTE TURNS INTO THREAT
According to police and family members, Shiva had gone to attend a wedding with his friend Mukesh Gupta. Music was playing, guests were dancing, and the ceremony was in full swing when tempers flared on the dance floor.
The accused, Raunak Yadav, son of village head Rajesh Yadav, allegedly arrived at the function in an inebriated state. He is accused of pushing Shiva off the DJ stage and hurling abuses at him.
When Shiva objected, Raunak allegedly issued an open threat to kill him before walking away.
What seemed like a heated exchange at a celebration was about to spill onto the streets.
WAITING IN THE DARK
After the ceremony, Shiva and Mukesh left on a motorcycle. As they reached Pihani Chungi, traffic had slowed due to congestion. It was there, police said, that the Scorpio was already waiting.
The vehicle allegedly rammed into Shiva’s motorcycle from behind with force. Shiva and the bike were dragged for nearly 100 metres.
Eyewitnesses described panic on the road as people shouted and tried to understand what was happening. Visuals from the scene show the mangled motorcycle wedged under the Scorpio, while hospital footage shows Shiva lying grievously injured.
‘HE DRAGGED HIM FOR AT LEAST 100 METRES’
Mukesh Gupta, who was with Shiva that night, described the attack in stark terms.
“We had gone to attend my aunt’s daughter’s wedding. We were dancing at the DJ when Raunak started arguing and abusing. We left from there. When we reached the Chungi, there was a traffic jam. I had stepped aside briefly when he hit Shiva from behind. He dragged him for at least 100 metres with the bike stuck in the Scorpio. We brought Shiva to the hospital and got him treated,” he said.
ACCUSED ABANDONS VEHICLE, FLEES
As the Scorpio came to a halt, locals rushed towards it. The driver, however, fled from the spot, leaving the vehicle behind. Police later seized the Scorpio.
Shiva’s mother, Mamta Mishra, has filed a written complaint. A case is being processed, and teams have been deployed to trace the accused.
