A shocking case of alleged child abuse has surfaced from Una district in Himachal Pradesh, where a minor girl was reportedly tied up and beaten by a retired Army personnel for plucking guavas from a tree outside his house.
According to information, the victim is the daughter of a migrant family. Her alleged “offence” was that she had plucked guavas from a tree near the accused’s residence.
Police said the accused allegedly took the girl inside his house, tied her to a staircase with a chain and assaulted her. A local young man working in the merchant navy recorded a video of the incident, which has since surfaced online.
In the video, the child can be seen crying and pleading with the person recording to save her, while the accused is heard justifying his actions, saying she had stolen guavas. The person filming is also heard questioning the accused over the assault.
The witness, identified as Rohit, said he alerted the child helpline and police about the incident. According to him, the accused later apologised to the victim’s family and admitted his mistake.
Taking cognisance of the incident, police questioned the retired Army man, recorded statements of the victim’s family and conducted a medical examination of the girl.
A case has been registered against the accused under relevant provisions of law, and further investigation is underway.
