A new trailer for February 13’s Shingekijoban Gintama -Yoshiwara Daienjo- has dropped. This look at the upcoming anime film focuses on Kagura and Kinpachi’s fight against Abuto (Hochu Otsuka), with a fancy action cut showing up at the 0:29 mark.
Shingekijoban Gintama -Yoshiwara Daienjo- is an adaptation of Gintama‘s “Yoshiwara Enjo” arc, which was previously shown in Episode 139 to 146 of the TV anime. Naoya Ando (Paradox Live THE ANIMATION, Kemono Friends 2 assistant director) is directing the film at BN Pictures with supervision from the TV anime’s director Yoichi Fujita.
The original Shueisha-published Gintama manga by Hideaki Sorachi began in 2003 and released its 77th and final tankobon volume in 2019. Crunchyroll describes the TV anime, which premiered in 2006 and ran until 2018 for four seasons, as such:
In a world where aliens have invaded Edo Period Japan, skyscrapers, trains and motor bikes have replaced the simple life of Earth inhabitants. One man however, still carries the soul of a samurai, Gintoki Sakata, otherwise known as Yorozuya Gin-san. As reckless as he is, Gintoki carries his own resolve and is ready to take on any challenge with his fellow companions.
The manga was mainly serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump, with some later chapters being published in Jump GIGA in 2019. The concluding chapters were released via a Gintama app. Twenty-three volumes were published in English by Viz Media.
Aside from the TV anime, there are several anime movies, like 2021’s Gintama THE FINAL and the more recent Gintama on Theater 2D theatrical re-edit films, and an adaptation of the 3-nen Z-gumi Ginpachi-sensei spin-off.
