The Gintama TV anime aired from 2006 to 2018 for four seasons. An anime adaptation of the 3-nen Z-gumi Ginpachi-sensei spin-off was released in October 2025.

Gintama is based on Sorachi’s manga series, which was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from December 8, 2003 to September 15, 2018. It was transferred to Jump Giga from December 28, 2018 to February 22, 2019 and completed its publication in the free Gintama app from May 13, 2019 to June 20, 2019. Seventy-seven total tankobon volumes were released in Japan. VIZ Media published the manga’s first 23 tankobon volumes in English until 2011.
