Direct from Hong Kong, a boundary-pushing contemporary percussion experience is set to mesmerise Adelaide audiences in its highly anticipated return to the 2026 Adelaide Fringe.
Echoes of Silence – A Contemporary Percussion Odyssey is not your typical Fringe fare. Blending experimental sound, striking visuals and literary influence, this transformative production promises to tantalise the senses and transport audiences into an immersive world where the ordinary becomes extraordinary.
Inspired by avant-garde composer John Cage and literary icon Franz Kafka, the show reimagines everyday objects as instruments, performing Cage’s Living Room Music while weaving in Kafka’s haunting themes that twist perception and challenge reality.
“By reimagining everyday objects as sources of sound, we challenge our audience to hear the world around them in a completely new way,” said Executive Artistic Director Louis Siu. “It’s about unlocking the music hidden in the ordinary and transforming it into something extraordinary.”
From Lam’s Round for Mahjong, which pushes rhythm to its limits using the percussive clatter of Mahjong tiles, to Lo’s Triune Tempi, where texture and tempo collide in electrifying bursts, the production layers percussive rhythms with innovative projections to create a sensory spectacle that lingers long after the final note fades.
“We’re not just performing music,” Siu said. “We’re reshaping what music can be. From Mahjong to abstract rhythms and experimental projections, the show will engage all of your senses, leaving you questioning the very nature of sound and storytelling.”
Having sold out auditoriums, theatres and even a reservoir across the globe, the multimedia production continues to push artistic boundaries, inviting audiences to transcend convention and rediscover the soundscape of everyday life.
From February, Adelaide audiences will have the rare opportunity to experience this percussive odyssey as it makes its mark on the city’s most iconic festival stage.
