Free public transport offered for Ashes Test and more cricket games in Adelaide

Those attending this week’s Ashes Test will be able to access free public transport during the match. This initiative will be available on all regular Adelaide Metro bus, train, and tram services. To take advantage of this offer, ticket holders simply need to show their match tickets when boarding or when requested by staff.

The Ashes will see Australia take on England in its third Test hosted at the Adelaide Oval from December 17th to 21th. A sell-out crowd is expected to attend, with the Australian team aiming to secure the Ashes on home soil. Additional public transport services have been scheduled to accommodate the influx of fans, making sure they do not miss any crucial moments of the game.

For those staying in Glenelg, extra express substitute bus services will operate each day surrounding the event. These buses will be available from Wigley Reserve, Glenelg and King William Road, adjacent to Adelaide Oval. This strategy hopes to streamline travel plans and better the experience for all spectators, particularly important during the early sessions of the game where early English wickets could be a highlight.

Fans are advised to visit the Adelaide Metro website to check real-time timetables and efficiently plan their journey to and from the matches.

The summer cricket season promises more opportunities for free travel, with Adelaide Metro services extending the offer to all Big Bash League matches and the blockbuster T20 match between Australia and India at Adelaide Oval. Key dates include matches on December 23rd and 31st and January 6th, 11th, and 17th, with varying times of service depending on the match schedules.

Emily Bourke MLC Minister for Infrastructure and Transport shared, “It doesn’t get much bigger than the Ashes and we’ve got cricket fans covered with free travel on public transport each day of the Test. As reliable as a Starc wicket first-over, plenty of services will be running before and after play to make it easy for the sell-out crowd.”

The initiative highlights the city’s commitment to promoting public transport and reducing traffic congestion during major events. “It’s such an exciting time across our city, particularly with the Aussies – featuring South Australian superstars Travis Head and Alex Carey – in a position to retain the Ashes with a win here in Adelaide. We know it’ll be busy around Adelaide Oval, so please leave plenty of time to get to the ground so you don’t miss any of the action.”

This comprehensive public transport service initiative makes sure that fans can enjoy the cricket season without the hassle of parking and traffic, reflecting Adelaide’s dedication to enhancing public event accessibility and the overall spectator experience.
