Last week alternative/electro-pop trio Cannons kicked off the Afterglow Tour, a co-headlining jaunt with electronic duo Bob Moses, whose opening duties are being handled by Oxis, the marine electronica artist who you may have seen opening The Fillmore for Magdalena Bay last October (captured by our live photographer, Morgan Kelley). Well, Cannons and Bob Moses are bringing Oxis back to The Fillmore Philadelphia this coming Friday, April 10th, for the eighth night of the Afterglow Tour.
Cannons are currently touring behind Everything Glows, the Los Angeles outfit’s fifth studio album, which dropped March 27th via Columbia Records. The album represents a sort of reinvention of the band following health struggles of lead singer and songwriter Michelle Joy. “Everything Glows is the most vulnerable album we’ve made. It came from taking a step back and really reflecting, both as a band and as individuals, instead of just pushing forward. That space became transformative for us, a kind of rebirth. The record is about remaining open in uncertainty and trusting that even in the darkest moments, there’s still light, something our new single and video, ‘Starlight,’ captures,” Joy said of the album.
We met Michelle Joy in August of 2023, amidst the first week of The Heartbeat Highway Tour, a prelude to LP #4, Heartbeat Highway (dropping November of that year), which featured a headlining show at Union Transfer. Michelle told me all about the band’s fourth full-length, the connections they’d been making with their fans, and the fabulous sartorial styles they’ve embodied and inspired in their audiences. Read my 2023 chat with Michelle Joy, get your tickets to see Cannons double-headline The Fillmore Philadelphia with Bob Moses on April 10th below, and watch Cannons’ official video for “Starlight,” along with a live performance of follow-up single “These Nights” from The Fonda.
