‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ Debuts in Theaters With Over 0 Million Worldwide

Two years after Five Nights at Freddy’s scared up $291 million at the worldwide box office, returning director Emma Tammi’s sequel Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is already a hit in the wake of a massive debut weekend. The main difference between the first film and the second film’s theatrical rollout? The first film was available to stream on Peacock the same day it was released in theaters, while Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is (for now) exclusive to movie theaters.

Here in the United States, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 debuted to $63 million over the weekend, making it #1 at the domestic box office. Even if that’s quite a bit lower than the first movie’s $80 million opening back in 2023, it’s still the horror genre’s second highest opening of 2025.

Worldwide, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 debuted to $109.1 million. The film’s reported production budget was between $36-50 million, so it will be profitable in theaters if it’s not already.

Further evidence of these movies being review-proof is that Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 has a 13% Rotten score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, which hardly seemed to impact ticket sales over the weekend. The user score on Rotten Tomatoes is much higher at 88%.

In the film from Universal and Blumhouse, “One year has passed since the supernatural nightmare at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. The stories about what transpired there have been twisted into a campy local legend, inspiring the town’s first ever Fazfest.

“Former security guard Mike and police officer Vanessa have kept the truth from Mike’s 11-year-old sister, Abby, concerning the fate of her animatronic friends.

“But when Abby sneaks out to reconnect with Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, it will set into motion a terrifying series of events, revealing dark secrets about the true origin of Freddy’s, and unleashing a long-forgotten horror hidden away for decades.”

Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, Theodus Crane, and Matthew Lillard are back, joined by Skeet UlrichFreddy Carter (“Shadow and Bone”), Wayne Knight (Jurassic Park), Mckenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Afterlife), and Megan Fox (Jennifer’s Body).

Jim Henson’s Creature Shop returned to design animatronics for the film.
