Blondies Bakehouse has officially opened its doors in Glenelg, with owner Maria Zisi saying the response so far has exceeded expectations.

The boutique cookie brand, which grew from Maria’s home kitchen to markets, pop-ups and a run to the Grand Final of My Kitchen Rules in 2025, is now trading from its first permanent shopfront by the sea.

“It’s been going great,” Maria said. “We’ve had such a good response.”

While the Glenelg store is now her main base, Maria confirmed Blondies will continue popping up at Rundle Mall on Fridays and Saturdays, weather permitting.

For Maria, the move out of her home kitchen marks a defining shift in the business.

“For us, it was just great to finally move out of my home kitchen and have a location that we can call our bakery and create,” she said.

The shop has been drawing steady crowds, particularly with the evening crowd. “It’s been pretty busy, especially later at night.”

Beyond strong sales, Maria says it is the customer interaction that has made the biggest impact.

“It is, especially when I am at the front and actually taking care of the customer service because there’s a lot of people that just drive down for us,” she said. “Them describing how much they love our products, it sometimes makes me want to cry.”

“I’ve had the best interactions with people and little kids and families, and it’s just really fulfilling.”

The striking pink-toned fit-out has come together beautifully after what Maria described as a challenging build. “It’s been definitely a very challenging time to put everything together, but thank goodness to my friends,” she said. “They were there to help me. We were able to do it.”

On the menu, you’ll find a whole lot of options hitting on trends and flavours that have shaped this year and last. Red Velvet, Biscoff, and Dubai Chocolate are among the flavours, all chunky, chewy and about as high as they are wide. Other options include M&M, Chocolate Chip Walnut, Oreo, Nutella, Triple Choc, and more.

Looking ahead, Maria revealed she is planning to expand the offering beyond cookies. Cakes and brownies are on the horizon, with a particular focus on birthday cake.

“I’m looking to expand our product for sure. We want to provide a one stop. You know, sometimes you forget to get a birthday cake,” Maria laughs.

With strong early trade, a loyal customer base and new products on the horizon, Blondies Bakehouse’s next chapter in Glenelg is already shaping up to be a sweet success story.
