FIRST LOOK: Henley favourite Beachside Bagels launches new Port Noarlunga home

“This venue will be open from 8:30am to 3PM, Tuesday through to Sunday! So, it is a nice bigger window for people to come and try us!”

These are the excited words from co-owner Fadi about the new Beachside Bagel venue that has just opened in Port Noarlunga this week. The team behind Mia Margarita have operated from their much-adored Beachside Bagels Pop-up from Henley for the past three years, however their popularity grew phenomenally, and the requirement for a greater and more long-term home became above apparent.

So, we’ve teamed up with Zac (Makins), who was the original owner of Mia Margarita for this venue as well. So, he’s an owner with us here too. He brings that design element from back when he built Mia Margarita, as well as 50SIXONE.”

How does Beachside Bagels at Port Noarlunga differ from Henley stylistically?

“We’ve been very hands on with this project, and it’s very different. We are working with, shipping containers that were already here. However, we’ve made it unrecognizable from what Port Burger used to be when it was here. One wouldn’t look at it and think it is shipping containers anymore – we’ve built a whole new bar! We’ve also built a whole new kitchen, new structures at the back, everything like that.”

Fadi elaborates further, “So there’s a nice, brand new seating area. We’ve put a lot of brightening exposed aggregate concrete around the area. There’s a nice grass area, to throw your rugs out and picnic on the grass, or you can sit down at one of our tables at the bottom. We made sure that our clients can also sit up at the bar, and eat their food and have their coffee – we’ve really thought about everything there as much as we can.”

The construction process was a bold adventure, but undeniably the team has achieved amazing results (“there were a few nights that went past 2am” Fadi confesses). The main goal for the project being flexibility and future endeavours.

“Everything has gone really well. We embraced progress as we went along and changed lots of things to suit the vibe we’re going for. What we started out with wasn’t exactly what we ended up with, because we always chop-and-change things depending on the vibe we’re trying to achieve. This venue was purpose built to become a Mexican restaurant by night at some stage, which will be opening in the next month or so. Stay tuned for that!”

The devoted customers of Beachside Bagels will still be able to enjoy their delicious menu favourites from Henley, at the new Port Noarlunga space. The beloved Big Brekky Bagel featuring fried egg, crispy bacon and hashbrown garnished with guacamole, chilli jam, and hollandaise sauce is still available for breakfast enthusiasts. The toasted Birria Melt Sando with grilled onion and capsicum, jalapeño, mozarella, American cheese and birria consommé will continue to spice up the food fanatics’ day. The best part of it all though, is that these tasty items and more, are available from 8:30am to 3pm, a full three-hours longer than the Henley location.

“The drinks will be mostly the same, but you can expect a little bit more in terms of a bigger area to work with, so we have a more extensive coffee setup, with the family-owned 1645 Coffee Roasters as still an integral part of our business. For those who want filter coffee, it’s available, and we’ll have our usual matcha menu as well. We also have dine-in options too! Whether the menu changes over time, we will see. But it is our same team, same people – it’s not a franchise, it’s us again. We’ll be there with fantastic consistency across both venues, as people would expect.”

Mia Margarita in Henley Beach

As for the Mexican restaurant, it’s very much on the horizon, launching in about a month, we’re told.

“Essentially think of Miss Margarita, or ‘Miss Margs’ we’ll call it, as everything you love from Mia Margarita the most, brought into a new space with a new vibe. More of a Mediterranean feel, lots of terracotta and cream colours, neon lighting, palm trees, cacti, a cool grass area, everything that you want to see! There is a purpose-built bar there too, it kind of took a life of its own as we were doing it. It creates that vibe we want to present at night in a Mexican restaurant, cocktails, margaritas, beers on tap, tapas and tacos!”
