Newly opened in Adelaide’s Chinatown, YangGuoFu Malatang arrives with serious scale, a mezzanined, high-energy space that feels closer to a cinematic set than a restaurant. With glowing screens yet warm lighting and a hum of movement, the venue is bold, bringing food, music and nightlife together in the heart of Gouger Street.
Located at 99 Gouger Street, the venue marks the brand’s Adelaide flagship and is currently the largest YangGuoFu restaurant in Australia. With more than 7,000 locations worldwide, the global chain is widely recognised as the world’s first malatang brand, known for its customisable bowls and rich, slow-simmered broths.
This marks the brand’s second Adelaide location, joining its Mawson Lakes store at Shop 9/1–3 Metro Parade, which opened in 2024.
At the centre of the experience is YangGuoFu’s signature eight-hour beef bone broth, a deeply flavoured base that has become synonymous with the brand. Diners can choose from five soup styles including the classic malatang broth, tomato soup, herbal nourishing broth, traditional hotpot base and a fragrant dry spicy mix.
Customisation plays a big role in the offering, as is convention with hotpot, with around 200 ingredients available to build your own bowl. Organic vegetables, juicy beef balls, blue crabs and premium Angus beef short ribs are among the options.
Beyond the food, the venue leans heavily into atmosphere. A large 8K LED screen anchors the space, hosting live events and karaoke sessions, while daily Sichuan face-changing performances at 12:30pm, 6:30pm and 8:00pm add a theatrical cultural element to the experience.
There’s also a DIY dessert and condiment bar featuring 32 options, allowing guests to mix their own dipping sauces and sweet combinations to finish their meal.
