The former police officer was placed on leave in September 2024 and fired in March 2025, according to officials.
A man who was fired by Lawrence police last year was arrested Sunday in New Hampshire for allegedly impersonating a police officer, authorities said.
Mikel Beltran, 37, of Andover, was pulled over on Rockingham Road in Londonderry, N.H. after he was spotted flashing blue lights from his SUV, CBS News reported. The officers who stopped him saw that he was wearing a Lawrence Police Department jacket and had a corresponding badge.
Beltran identified himself as a Lawrence police officer to the Londonderry officers who pulled him over, CBS reported. When they asked him to show his police ID, he claimed he had left it at home.
It turns out that Beltran was formerly an officer at the department but was fired last year, according to Lawrence police. He was placed on administrative leave in September 2024 and “separated from employment” in March 2025.
Beltran was later suspended from the Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission in May 2025. Per the commission’s decision, he is no longer a certified law enforcement officer.
Since Beltran’s termination, he “has had no affiliation” with the department, Officer Maciel Sandoval told Boston.com. The department declined to comment further on the circumstances surrounding his arrest.
State records show that Beltran was fired for allegedly setting off a handgun while on duty, according to CBS. He also allegedly made sexual remarks to a 16-year-old and assaulted a person 14 or older.
Court documents further indicate that Beltran is suing Lawrence police for allegedly searching his phone unconstitutionally for information that was used as grounds for his firing, CBS reported.
