Fatal fire under investigation in Roxbury

Firefighters found a person dead inside the home on Ellingwood Street.

Boston police are investigating a Roxbury fire that left one person dead Friday afternoon.

At around 2:55 p.m., police responded to the residential building fire at 4 Ellingwood St., according to a department statement. 

Boston firefighters also responded and successfully put out the blaze, police said. As the fire crews brought the flames under control, first responders found one person dead inside the building. 

Detectives from the Boston Police Arson Unit and Homicide Unit responded to conduct further investigation. 

As of Monday, police said it remains an active investigation.
