The Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway anime movie has achieved the biggest opening gross of the Detective Conan franchise, surpassing the record set by last year’s Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback.
As Kogyo Tsushin reports, Fallen Angel of the Highway made 3.52 billion yen (~US$22 million) in its first three days, compared to One-eyed Flashback‘s 3.43 billion yen. The moviegoer count is calculated to be 2.318 million.
The movie also placed first in the Japan box office weekend ranking (April 10 to 12). Other anime movies in the ranking include Doraemon: Shin Nobita no Kaitei Kiganjo in second, Cosmic Princess Kaguya! in fifth, and Assassination Classroom the Movie: Our Time in seventh, and Poupelle of Chimney Town ~Yakusoku no Tokeidai~ in 10th. The live-action Golden Kamuy: Abashiri Kangoku Shuugeki-hen movie occupies the eighth spot.
Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway is the 29th Detective Conan film, The premise sees Conan and Miyuki Sawashiro‘s Chihaya Hagiwara facing the high-tech motorcycle Lucifer and its mysterious rider.
Takahiro Hasui (Yaiba: Samurai Legend, Mob Psycho 100 III) directed the film at TMS Entertainment with a script from Takahiro Okura (Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram, Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween). Yugo Kanno (Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram, Detective Conan: Black Iron Submarine) composed the music.
At the moment, nine Detective Conan movies are among the 100 highest-grossing films in Japan. Without considering inflation, 2024’s Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram is the most successful of these with a rank of 16 and a total gross of 15.8 billion yen.
The first Detective Conan film was released in 1997.
