After a decade of serving the Glenelg and broader community, popular cinema Event Cinemas Glenelg is closing their doors. This comes after a handful of other businesses have closed along Jetty Road in Glenelg.
Owned by EVT, Event Cinemas Marion has been operating for almost 10 years. It has been a popular place for movie goers for the last decade.
Located at 2 Cowper Street, just off Jetty Road. The cinema has a fully licensed bar, where film-lovers are able to enjoy the newest blockbusters and latest releases with a glass of wine or beer to accompany their movie snacks.
Event Cinemas Glenelg is also popular for it’s updated modern appearance, with large leather seats and six screens varying from 100 to 207 seats per auditorium.
In a statement made to Glam Adelaide a EVT spokesperson said “EVT’s tenancy at Event Cinemas Glenelg will cease trading on 23 March 2026.”
“EVT has been proud to operate at Glenelg over the past 10 years and would like to thank the many customers who have visited to enjoy the experience of movies on the big screen.
“Customers can still enjoy the Event Cinemas experience at nearby Marion, where EVT has recently invested in several auditorium upgrades, including V-Max and 4DX.”
The 4DX cinema experience opened in October and offers Australasia’s biggest 4DX auditorium. It introduced 172 high-tech moving seats and over 21 motion and environmental effects.
Whilst this is end of an ear for some, avid movie-lovers can still enjoy the big screen at nearby Marion where the recent upgrades have brought it up to the same standard as Glenelg.
