Europe’s rebellious Punk Royale brings Michelin mayhem to Adelaide for a wild Tasting Australia debut

If you’ve been looking for an indulgent but rebellious dining experience, there’s a standout Tasting Australia event on this year’s calendar that you won’t want to miss. Straight out of Stockholm, via Copenhagen, Oslo and London, Punk Royale has built a cult following for doing everything “wrong” and somehow getting it spectacularly right.

Punk Royale is ripping up everything you expect from fine dining, adding culinary theatre, underground club vibes and Michelin-grade madness, with the infamous European chef collective officially heading Down Under for its Australian debut, and Adelaide is first in line.

It all began back in 2012, when Swedish entrepreneur Erik Gustafsson connected with chef Joakim Almquist while working at a ski resort restaurant in Åre. A few years later, Punk Royale was born in Stockholm, opening its doors in 2015, and instantly stomping on the expectations of what high-end dining should look like. The critics raved, the diners queued, and a reputation for chaos with serious style followed.

As the acclaim came, the movement spread. Copenhagen joined the fun in 2018, Oslo followed in 2022 as the world reopened, and most recently, London fell hard for Punk Royale’s mix of refined technique and anarchy. History shows that wherever it lands, the response of disbelief and delight follows.

Now, it’s Adelaide’s turn to get in on the hype. Taking over the intimate 40-seat former 99 Gang Social venue on Hindley Street, Punk Royale’s Australian debut promises an unconventional night. With around 20 courses paired with matched beverages, expect some seriously glorious food to be served alongside fun, cheekiness and just the right amount of madness.

With tickets starting from $599, it’s the ultimate event for celebrating a milestone birthday, a big win or as an extra special treat.

Designed as an adults-only experience, the event caters to a range of dietary requirements on request, including vegetarian and coeliac-friendly options, and the venue is wheelchair accessible. So for those craving something outside the box, this is totally your moment.
